  • What team would benefit most from instituting the Wildcat?

What team do you feel would benefit most from trying a Miami style single wing offense as more of their base sets? Explain your reasoning please.

I have some opinions about this and would like to hear some others.

Oakland should use it a lot more often.

Not so much now, that McFadden is out. But with a player like him, who ran it in college (successfully) it could work well. Especially considering not much else works in Oakland.

I think about 10-15 NFL Teams could use it. Most teams with 2 solid RB's could do it. I think Tennessee should give it a try using Vince Young & Chris Johnson!

Redskins, Raiders and Bucs. All lousy teams with talented backs. Oakland the most. They have the guy who practically reinvented it at Arkansas with McFadden!

I don't want N.E. doing it but they have the perfect guys. Edelman played QB in the MAC last year and he plays WR now. He could easily play that position with Morris or Faulk back there with him.

Why not? Run T.O. a little with either of the other 2 taking the snap.

The best teams to run the single wing IMO are teams that have mediocre base offenses but good defenses. The team that would be prototypical IMO is actually the Jets. They have a middle of the pack offense but they are struggling to outscore opponents. Their defense is keeping them close in a lot of games and arent getting them beaten. A ball control style wouldn't hurt their chances of scoring points since they arent particularly great at it in the first place but would keep their defense rested and in the best position to make plays.

I'm surprised it's still effective. I thought defenses would have stopped it by now. A (so-called) very good defense was eaten alive on Monday.
