Tedy was probably my all time favorite N.E. player on defense. He retired today and i'll miss you Tedy!!!!!!!
I've never seen coach Bill emotional. Never. Today, he was very emotional and that was almost a bigger story than the retirement. We never ever see that side of Bill and it was very weird to see.
Tedy was the only Patriot on the team to play in 5 Super Bowls (Won 3). He also holds the record for playoff games played in with 22.
He played 9 seasons and he finished 2nd on the team in tackles 3 or 4 times, but never 1st. After his 9th season, Tedy suffered a stroke in early 2005. I'll never forget the footage of him leaving the hospital. He couldn't walk on his own and he could barely speak without slurred or slowed words when he tried. Everybody just assumed his career was over and all we wanted was for him to get better and lead a healthy life with his wife and his boys.
Well, Tedy was on the field 8 months later for the 2005-2006 season. He went on the play 4 more years and he finally led the team in tackles a couple of times. Coach called him the "Perfect Player" today and Bill doesn't say that about anybody. The highlight reel for Tedy is a long one. He will make it in the Patriots HOF but i think that is about it.
How many NFL players have a stroke and come back to play 4 more seasons without missing any time? That is reallly amazing when you think about how physically demanding this League is.
Tedy has always had nothing but a smile on his face and the most positive of attitudes. Every one that knows him has said that he was a greater man, father and husband than he was a football player and if that is true, that says a lot about Tedy. This guy could not be more loved in New England. He has done a million things up here and every single one of them were positive, on and off the field.
I don't get worked up or watery eyed over sports or athletes retiring. I never have but today, it was different.
We'll miss you Tedy!!!!
