    Texas Tech record-setting Harrell goes to CFL

    Harrell takes his game to CFL

    REGINA, Saskatchewan -- Graham Harrell is headed to the CFL.

    The record-setting Texas Tech quarterback signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Thursday.

    Harrell is the NCAA Division I career leader in touchdown passes but wasn't drafted by the NFL. His workout with the Cleveland Browns did not result in a contract.

    Harrell had to fight the perception that his numbers were the product of Texas Tech's offensive system and he didn't have the arm strength to succeed in the NFL.

    The Roughriders are already two games into their season and have three quarterbacks on their roster. Their starter is former North Carolina quarterback Darian Durant, who had only four career CFL starts coming into the season.

          Yea I also find it pretty fucked up that no NFL team would want him...typical isnt it just because he may not have had the best combine numbers or something...is it just me or do NFL teams/scouts base WAY to much emphasis on that physical NFL combine instead of on field athleticism and play making ability??

            This dude threw for 134 TD passes throughout his college career which is the all time division 1 CFB record...

            He holds the NCAA record for completions in a season with 512, which he set in 2007...

            He is the only quarterback in U.S. college football history to twice amass over 5,000 yards passing in a season...

            He finished fourth in voting for the 2008 Heisman Trophy...

            But all because of that stupid physical NFL combine testing no NFL team wants him...just hillarious...I am sure Demarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Vince Young, and Matt Lienart are going to lead their teams to Super Bowls however...all first rounders QB's over the past several years....however they looked good "physically" at the COMBINE...hahahahaha fucking joke that grading system is for the draft...

              Im pretty sure he had private workouts with several teams after the draft, dont know if he rubbed people the wrong way or had bad workouts, but you would think someone would have given this kid a shot. I think he will eventually get a shot in the NFL, just not sure when

                Its because his NFL combine statistics were poor. The NFL is so stupid they look at that shit like its the Bible..

                If your big and physical and do all the tests well it is very minimal if you have great play making ability or on field football sense. I have always critiqued that stupid combine system for the draft...

                  He also played under Mike Leach which will blow up any QB's numbers. Harrell wouldn't ever have sniffed the field at Texas or Oklahoma imo.

                    The combine grades tools. If you have x-number of good tools then you are considered a draft asset. They figure that they can develop you into their system as long as you have the physical attributes most needed in the NFL. However I think QB's like Brad Johnson, Doug Flutie and Trent Dilfer all proved that fairly debunk. I agree with Chado. Gimme a QB with slightly below average footspeed and arm strength but with Tom Brady's brain anyday.

                      I agree, the combine should only be used a one of many evaluation tools.

                      Damn good thing that Sonny Jurgensen never had to go to a combine!!!
