Longtime hoops star Antoine Walker, who's made over $100 million in his NBA career, has failed to fully repay his $1 million debt to three Las Vegas casinos and is facing criminal charges as a result.
Walker is accused of writing bad checks according to files provided by the Clark County district attorney on Tuesday. People with an understanding of the situation claim Walker broke an agreement to deliver 10 checks amounting $1 million to Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood and the Red Rock Resort.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Bernie Zadrowski told the Las Vegas Sun that his bad check unit is asking for a warrant to arrest Walker. Zadrowski says Walker has paid some of his debt but still owes $822,500 on the remaining balance.
Jonathan Powell, an attorney of Walker based in Las Vegas, declined to comment on the situation.
Walker is a three-time NBA All-Star. After spending the first seven seasons with the Boston Celtics, Walker split his last five pro campaigns with Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, Minnesota and a short return to the Boston.
The former Wildcat won a national championship staring with Kentucky and also won an NBA championship as a role player with the Miami Heat in 2006.
Although he didn’t play in the Association last season, Walker still collected the majority of his $9 million salary after being bought out by the Memphis Grizzlies in December.
The small forward signed a six-year, $70 million deal in 2001. He also made close to $15 million on his rookie contract.
