Pujols, Howard among HR Derby entries

    Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Former champion Ryan Howard, Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder and Adrian Gonzalez will represent the National League in the All-Star Home Run Derby next week.

The four sluggers are the NL's first basemen for the game July 14 at St. Louis. The Home Run Derby will be held Monday night at Busch Stadium.

Pujols leads the majors with 31 home runs for the Cardinals. Howard won the 2006 All-Star Home Run Derby in Pittsburgh.

The AL participants will be announced later.

i know, the slam dunk contest is a joke anymore.i used to look forward to it years ago now the last 8 to 10 years it has been dismal.

also its about time that mlb puts some home run hitters on the field,it nice to see four good sluggers for the nl now i hope the al follows suit....the last few years it also has lacked the real home run hitters, all they were putting out there was the one year wonders and all the did was flop for the fans

About time--Glad to see these guys are stepping up for this. Usually a big name sits and it pisses me off. I was watching the 2005 Derby the other day(yes I was bored) and it was the international one that had very minimal "big names"--I think Abreu won it that year--I fell asleep-

I'd like to see Longoria in there for the AL.

If I had to pick the other 3 from your list, I'd go:

                          Tex
                          Kinsler
                          Cabrera

I think if you really want to go for fan appeal, you put Bay (Boston) and Tex (NY) in there. Huge fan bases that will watch and the Boston vs NY lure too. Add 2 other names of your choosing and i think for ratings, it could be the highest EVER!
