Does it really take 9 months for that hand to heal back to fighting form? That sucks big time for Faber. Sucks for the sport too, as he seems to be very well liked.
EX; if we boxed around the ring for the first 3 minutes and it was even let's say you knocked me down, the judges would favor you, if i got a 2 leg takedown, followed it up with an elbow, let you get up and took you down again, i win the round. (even though you knocked me down, i pushed forward the whole round and got those takedowns instead of backing up letting you pick me apart) being able to control your opponent is what wins rounds the most when it's even IMO
faber opened mike's eye in that first round, and landed the most accurate strike, both were right hands, Mike had a big right of his own and i believe a takedown, and faber got up.....who did more work, who was more active, that's what it comes down to in fights as close as that.
and yes as chung said Faber has been the WEC meal ticket for years now, more so than any other fighter. That time is appearing to run out with all of these new breed 145lbs coming over, and developing. I will always be a faber fan just like chung he's in my top 5 favorites in todays game, but i actaully see a couple of 145 pounders taking that title, in the near future. ALDO !
and just real quick mavs whenever you have some time check out some of faber's fights from like 06 and 07 the jeff curran fight is a good example of the fighter he was, faber never really had hands at all, it was all speed and wrestling, mixed with kicks, then they finally put him up against jens pulver who at the time seemed to be the perfect guy to beat him, jens has got a BIG left hand and it seemed like faber could not avoid it for 5 rounds not only did he come out and avoid it he dominated in every single aspect of MMA and the best part of it was the srtiking, a guy that never really "stood" before, stood toe 2 toe with one of the best KO shots in the division ever for 5 full rounds and kind of made him look a little silly if you ask me, (top 3 fight of that year, if you did not see the first faber/pulver go watch it !) and that was the begininng of the end for jens pulver (gotta show respect though) MAVS LOOK UP THE THREAD TITLED SUPERIGHT posted by chung, a good MMA thread and we don't have many on here.
IMO it might of even been the beginning of the end for faber, see he broke his hand in that one too, the first time he ever really used his hands technically, then a hurricane down here in florida delayed the first faber/brown match a full 2 months. without that extra 2 months i do not think faber would have fought, but he did and he lost to mike brown, then they gave faber a rematch with pulver and this time it was over quickly, brown defended against leanord garcia, and that brought us up to date with this rematch. It seems that ever since faber started striking which was in the first faber vs pulver i believe he has injured his hand in some way in every fight since then. When he broke it vs pulver it didn't look as bad as last night and that took about 7 and a half months. With his speed and power he needs to wait until it fully healed and IMO 9 months
EXTREMELY well liked i don't know if you can like a guy anymore if your a fan of his, he is a true representative of the sport. As well is Mike thomas brown he's just a simple kind of man though, no lights camera action for mike, no hype, he just comes in does his job and leaves.
sorry for the novel mavs i get carried away with MMA !

I do not think he will get the title back. I do not think he can beat Brown, Aldo, Fabiany or even Grispi. Faber is a very good fighter but I think he is a step behind these other guys.2010: 23-12 +37.8

Thanks for the read pain. Watch those fights if I have the time.
Watched the brown-faber fight prior to II on Sunday. Great fight, and made me even more confident in Brown after wards. I like Brown a lot, and I'm interested to see this Aldo kid you guys are talking about.
Also like Pulver a lot too. Even after he lost is less than 30 seconds, showed a whole lot of class. Which must be tough...... Train for the fight for days on end, and lose the fight in seconds must be a real hard thing."CFB YTD: 5-8-1 -16.2"

mike brown's name doesn't belong in the same sentence, maybe the same article but not sentence as Lyoto Machida's IMO, and neither does faber as of now, if he comes back maybe ?

Aldo is a young beast who also has great KO power. He doesnt have the wrestling that Brown has. I think Pain says he has good bjj. I havent seen it yet since he has KO'd his last 2 wec oppenents. Brown is big and strong and hard to submit.

A brief History with Nova Uniao's background
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 1914, Esai Maeda (Count Koma) arrived in Brazil. He was a World Champion in Jiu-Jitsu and would travel Japan as a professional wrestler and fight all challengers. Once in Brazil, Esai became friends with Gastao Gracie and as a show of friendship he taught Gastao's son, Carlos Gracie, the art of Jiu-Jitsu.
From that point Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu kept on developing and was spreading all over Brazil. It is a style based more on leverage than strength, so it appeals to people from all walks of life. It is the world’s fastest growing martial art and it will continue to be this way as more and more people are recognizing the need for the grappling arts.
Nova Uniao are the World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champions. We are setting the standard around the world for the best competitors and coaches. This is seen in results both locally and internationally. Whether you are doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for self-defence, fitness, personal development or to compete, who better to do it with than the best? Nova Uniao sets a higher standard as all the representative academies are run by black belt instructors with years of competitive and teaching experience. This ensures that our standard stays at the highest possible level. New techniques and innovations are constantly being developed and are integrated into the syllabus on an ongoing basis, making sure our academies and students are always getting the best, most up to date information and instruction.
About Nova Uniao's founder:
Members of the Gracie family are not the only ones to operate federations and associations of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu who may organize tournaments or give rank within the art. In an interview with Andre Pederneiras, a fifth degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and founder of the Nova Uniao team, he was asked about his involvement in the promotion of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and organization of the art's first tournament. He stated that he had organized the first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in 1993, then the following questions were asked:
"What is the difference between the first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament you created and the BJJ Confederation (Carlos Jr.'s) Tournament?"
"Price for one. In my tournament, I charged competitors ten dollars per person and Carlos Gracie Jr. charged thirty dollars. I only charged ten dollars, but I held the event in an expensive place called Club Hebraica. At the time his tournament was held as the Clube Guanabarra and I know he paid nothing for this place."
"Did you collaborate on this event with the president of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Confederation, Mr. Carlos Gracie Jr.?"
"Of course not. The confederation did not exist yet when I was putting this tournament together. After my idea, Carlos Gracie created the Brazilian Confederation and started to make the other Brazilian tournaments."
"So basically he made a much greater profit than you did?"
"Exactly. I created the tournament so that all Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighters could compete and have a good time, not to get rich. Our priorities are were just different."
Jose Aldo has 5 fights in the WEC all 5 have come by way of TKO, this dude hasn't even needed to get on the ground yet, and he's 22 years old and already a 4 time brazilian jiu jitsu champion, as well as World Champion as well, his training partners are Ribiero and a another guy i like a lot that you mentioned above wagnney fabiano. he also trains with thales leites as well all 3 VERY legitimate black belts.
it's said he wants a shot at torres at 135. probably so fabiano could concentrate on 145lb. Aldo will be a good size dog vs torres, and still a dog vs mike brown, i'm on aldo either way at whatever weight class guys.
