Kenner claims title with five-run sixth

The 12-year-old team from Kenner, La., will represent the Southwest Region at the Cal Ripken Baseball World Series after taking a 10-6 win against Little Rock, Ark., on Tuesday at the North Randall County baseball field.

Kenner will play in its first World Series, which is scheduled Aug. 8-15 in Aberdeen, Md.

Kenner blew open the game with a five-run sixth. Ricardo Betancourt hit a three-run homer to key the inning. Betancourt also pitched a complete game.

Kenner's Joe Runnebaum, the tournament MVP, started the scoring with a two-run single in the top of the first.

Little Rock answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, with Peyton White knocking in two base runners.

Kenner went ahead 4-3 in the second and added a run in the fifth. Little Rock again answered, tying the game on Turner McDaniel's hit.

The Louisiana team battled back through the losers bracket after falling 8-5 Sunday to Little Rock. Kenner won a rematch Monday, 13-6, to force a third game between the two teams.

Kenner eliminated North Randall County with 10-3 and 6-1 victories.
