Shit Garrard is gone and there is more than likely my chance at winning this week in my fantasy league unless Addai and Harrison has a huge night.

Having said that, the nickname might have been the result of an error. According to NHL.com, the first man to refer to the team as "the Habs" was Tex Rickard, owner of Madison Square Garden, in 1924. Rickard apparently told a reporter that the "H" on the Canadiens' sweaters was for "Habitants." Not true. The distinctive C-wrapped-around-H logo stands for "Club de Hockey Canadien."
Exactly right habitants referred to the farmers of quebec along the shores of the St. Lawrence waterway. That let people know that the players were french canadien, as opposed to the american hockey team in montreal which was the montreal moroons at the time.

so...... Le Club De Hockey Canadien, Les Canadiens de Montreal, Le Bleu-Blanc-et-Rouge, Le Tricolore, Le Glorieux, or you can just call them the "habs" (they have like 3 other nicknames too)
