The Al Central leading Detroit Tigers travel to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays. They arrive with considerably less wind in their sales after a record of 3-7 in their last ten games. It appears that the amazing job that Manger Jim Leyland has done of covering up their pitching inadequacies has finally hit a snag. It appeared early on that the Tigers would be a runaway winner of the Central Division after about a third of the season. Now with Leyland struggling for starting hurlers, things have taken a a totally different look. The Blue Jays on the other hand are the unknown third team contending in the AL East with the Yankees and Red Sox.
Detroit will send out nine year vet Ted Lilly who is 5-6 with a 4.50 ERA and a Whip of 1.67. He started fast in his first five games, averaging almost 7 innings per outing, and had tough one run losses to the Yankees and Angels during that stretch that he went 3-2. Lilly is 4-1 at home and the Blue Jays are 19-11. Tiger started Zach Miner who was whacked for seven hits and four runs in his only start against the Red Sox has a lofty 6.75 ERA and gave up two homers in his only four innings this year.
