    Explanation: 2 Units

Penn St. is coming off a win of monumental proportions as the Nittany Lions went to Illinois on Saturday and defeated the Illini. While that would normally spell letdown next time out, it won’t be the case here as Penn St. will build from that victory. The Nittany Lions would have to completely fold in this one as they will be facing a horrible road team. Penn St. is a respectable 9-4 at home this season with three of those losses coming against the elite of the Big Ten.

Minnesota has dropped seven of its last eight games with four of those losses coming on the road. The Gophers took Iowa to overtime but also lost at Purdue by 17 points which negated that solid effort. Minnesota is just 1-5 away from home this year and that win came way back in December against Arizona St. in overtime. A very soft nonconference schedule led to a 9-2 start but it has all been downhill since then and that continues against a confident squad.

Minnesota is getting outscored by 11.7 ppg on the road as the offense has been nonexistent. The Gophers are scoring only 64 ppg on a measly 38.8 percent shooting from the floor. The defense allows 45.8 percent shooting to its opponents as it is getting stung for 75.7 ppg. They are shooting only 62.9 percent from the free throw line overall and that drops to 59.7 percent in road games. There has been no consistency for the Gophers this season as they have used 12 different starting lineups in their 19 games on the year.

Penn St. normally is at a big disadvantage down low as the lineup is the smallest in the conference. The good news in this is a game against the second smallest roster as the Gophers don’t have a starter taller than 6’6”. Surprisingly however, Penn State leads the Big Ten in conference games in offensive rebounding (12.89 rpg) and is fourth in the overall statistics. Penn State has out-rebounded six of eight opponents and tied one on the offensive glass. The Nittany Lions make it two straight.

    Play Penn St. -2.5

Predicted Final: Penn St. 71 Minnesota 64
