We got nothing bad to write about Central Florida, one of the biggest redemption stories in all of college football this season. The Golden Knights were winless last year, and, after dropping their first two games in ’05, had the longest losing streak in the country. George O’Leary didn’t lose the Notre Dame job because he couldn’t coach football, that’s for sure, and he turned Central Florida from downtrodden wannabe’s into MAC East Conference Champs, with an 8-1 SU mark in their last five games. Central Florida also gets the advantage of having this game being played on their home field in Orlando.

But Central Florida is not the better of these two teams, plain and simple. The Knights lost at Southern Miss by three touchdowns; Tulsa won there by two touchdowns. Central Florida beat hapless Tulane by 10 at home; Tulsa beat ‘em by 24 on the road. Central Florida didn’t have to play UTEP; Tulsa beat em for 59 minutes before losing by only a field goal. Central Florida got blasted at South Florida; Tulsa hung with Oklahoma into the fourth quarter in Norman.

The Golden Hurricanes are slightly better at both running and throwing the football compared to the Golden Knights. They are much better defensively stopping the run and the pass than George O’Leary’s squad. Tulsa has recent big game experience under Steve Kragthorpe, winning five straight down the stretch just two years ago to earn a Humanitarian Bowl bid. Central Florida has never played in a big game before, not as a Division 1A team, anyway.

Tulsa has played six road games this year. They are a perfect 6-0 ATS in those games. They are the superior defensive squad against both the run and the pass, and have big game experience, unlike their foes. Central Florida has had a great run, but it ends here against superior opposition – look for Tulsa to win Conference USA in their first season in the league.

    Play Tulsa -2
