    5 Units on Los Angeles Dodgers -1½ +115 (Brown - R, Vargas-R)
He'll now look for a similarly efficient effort in the opener of a three-game series against the Montreal Expos at Olympic Stadium. Brown needed only 84 pitches to get through an impressive eight-inning performance against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. He allowed one run and four hits in the Dodgers' 3-2 victory, which lasted only one hour, 55 minutes. ``When you make good pitches and have good defensive plays made behind you, you can have a quick game,'' Brown said. ``Games like these are nice if you're on the winning end. There's not much consolation in fast games that you lose, but quick games you win are a godsend.'' Brown also did not issue a walk for the second consecutive start. Over his last three outings, he is 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA, giving up just four earned runs in 22 innings. The Dodgers' recent run of solid play has coincided nicely with Brown's resurgence. Los Angeles, which has won nine of 13, opened its six-game road trip by taking two of three from the New York Mets. In Thursday's series finale, Kazuhisa Ishii allowed one run in six innings and Cesar Izturis drove in three runs, leading the Dodgers to a 6-1 victory. The Expos have also been playing well of late. They beat the San Diego Padres 12-5 on Thursday to complete a three-game sweep. Brad Wilkerson and Wil Cordero each had three hits and three RBIs, as the Expos scored 12 runs for the second consecutive game.

    3 Units on St Louis Cardinals -121 (Morris - R, Zambrano- R)
The Cardinals went into Cincinnati on Monday riding a seven-game winning streak, including a sweep of their six-game homestand. However, the Cardinals' momentum was abruptly halted as they dropped four straight to the Reds and fell out of first place in the NL Central. ``I don't think we're struggling per se,'' Cardinals starter Garrett Stephenson said. ``We're not clicking on a few things. It was our first time to this ballpark. We didn't really know what to expect.'' With closer Jason Isringhausen still on the sidelines with a shoulder injury, the Cardinals' bullpen remains a liability. St. Louis is 2-9 in one-run games, 4-5 in two-run decisions, and has converted just five of 14 save opportunities. The Cardinals' poor pitching against the Reds wasted another solid series from Albert Pujols, who had two home runs and four RBIs. Pujols, who is ranked third in the NL in hitting behind teammates Jim Edmonds and Edgar Renteria, is 16-for-41 (.390) with six homers and 15 RBIs over his last 13 games. The Cubs also stumbled a bit this week, losing two out of three to last-place Milwaukee. Chicago posted a 2-1 victory on Wednesday to avoid the sweep. Unlike the Cardinals' bullpen, the Cubs' relief corps has been one of the team's main strengths over the first five weeks of the season. Joe Borowski has emerged as a reliable closer, converting all six of his save opportunities.

    3 Units on Toronto Blue Jays +135 (Davis - L, Sele - R)
Sele, a two-time All-Star, returns from shoulder surgery to pitch his first game since Aug. 20, when he lost 7-5 to the New York Yankees for his sixth loss in eight decisions. The 32-year-old right-hander was 8-9 with a 4.89 ERA in his first season with the Angels, after spending the previous two in Seattle, where he was a combined 32-15. Sele follows Kevin Appier, who came off the 15-day disabled list with a strained forearm to beat the Cleveland Indians 7-1 on Friday. Appier went five innings, giving up an earned run, two hits and six walks. The left-fielder tied a career high with seven RBIs, including his sixth career grand slam, as the Angels took all three from the Indians after getting swept by the Blue Jays at SkyDome. Anderson, who made his first All-Star appearance last season, has five homers and a team-high 33 RBIs in 33 games. He finished 3-for-4 and is batting .474 (9-for-19) during a six-game hitting streak with two doubles, two homers and nine RBIs. The Blue Jays have won six of seven with Friday's 8-6 win at Texas. Toronto won despite Carlos Delgado, the AL RBI leader, going 0-for-5.
