Game: San Francisco Giants at Los Angeles Dodgers 8:10 p.m. ET

Sport: MLB - Major League Baseball

    Line: Total 7.5 over -110

    Prediction: Over 7.5 -110

    Explanation: 2 Unit

Arms Must Start: San Francisco - Brad Hennessey / Los Angeles - Derek Lowe

We have two teams heading in opposite directions as both are coming off weekend sweeps – the Giants winning and the Dodgers losing. We aren’t concerned about winning and losing here however just the components that have gone into those streaks. The Dodgers pitching has been atrocious of late while the Giants have been scoring some decent run amounts. We also have some good pitching scenarios in our favor.

Derek Lowe is coming off his best start of the season, a one-hit shutout at Chicago but a duplicate of that is not going to come close to happening. He allowed one-hit in eight innings against the Reds five weeks ago and followed that up with a stinker in a 9-4 loss. He has a 4.30 ERA at home this season and that includes a shellacking at the hands of the Giants who roughed him up for six runs in 4.2 innings in July. The dodgers are 11-6 over is Lowe’s 17 starts as the favorite.

Brad Hennessey was held without a win in the month of August while the Giants won just one of his six starts. He posted a 5.61 ERA in the month after a fairly solid July. He has better numbers on the road this season but his road ERA of 4.68 is nothing special nor is his 1.58 WHIP. He has been extremely successful during the day but he has a 6.28 ERA at night while opponents are hitting .319 against him. The Giants have scored four runs in each of his last three starts, which will be more than enough once again.

The Giants averaged six rpg in their weekend series against Arizona while the Dodgers pitching allowed 9.7 rpg in their weekend series against the Rockies. Los Angels has averaged 4.3 rpg over its last 10 games and that includes two one-run efforts against the Astros and Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte so the average is actually better. We expect both pitchers to have some trouble tonight and make this game go over the total rather easily.
