The Padres weren`t able to build any momentum against the N.L. leading Cardinals, dropping two of three games. We do expect them to have success against the Reds, who are coming off a series split with the Dodgers.
San Diego needs to start putting a string of victories together if they want to hold onto the West division lead. They should be able to take some frustration out on a Reds squad that is just 13-33 away from home this season. Pedro Astacio will take the hill on Friday. He is coming off a solid outing against the Phillies, in which he allowed just two runs in six innings. He has given up just four runs over his last 14 innings pitched against the Reds.
How Luke Hudson is still in the Reds starting rotation is mind boggling. He is 1-5 with a horrific 8.83 ERA in eight starts this season. Each of his five losses have come by at least three runs, and we expect a similar result on Friday. In three road starts, Hudson is winless with a 10.80 ERA. The Padres have been waiting to break out offensively, and this could be their chance. They pull away early in this one tonigh. Play San Diego Padres

Cleveland fell victim to Oakland as most teams have recently which stopped a nice little run it had going. The Indians took two of three against the Mariners before this current road trip and Cleveland has now won eight of the last 10 meetings against Seattle. The Mariners are in a big time rut, having dropped eight of their 12 games since the All-Star break. Seattle is the worst hitting home team in the American League with a .258 average while the run production is also last.
Kevin Millwood has been lights out for Cleveland with just a couple bad outings against the Yankees and Red Sox. He has allowed three runs or less in his 13 other starts since April 21st and the only reason he isn’t winning is because of low run support. Cleveland scored three runs or less in 12 of those 15 starts but they did put up six in his last outing which just so happened to be against Seattle and tonight’s starter. He allowed one run in 7.2 innings against the Mariners in that game.
Aaron Sele was he opposing pitcher in that last game and he has been pitching poorly since the end of June. Seattle has lost his last seven starts and since June 25th, he has posted an ERA of 9.31 over his last six starts. The Mariners are only 3-7 in his 10 home starts and just 7-13 in his 20 starts on the season. He has a 4.28 ERA at home which is very unimpressive in a so called pitchers park. Facing the Indians is something he doesn’t like, as he has dropped the last nine games while posting a 6.92 ERA in those starts.
We expect a very similar game to the one that that took place last Saturday but with Sele getting hit around a little more. He has been off for over a month now and there looks to be no end in sight. Cleveland gets a break after facing the A’s and prior to that, the Indians averaged nearly five rpg in their previous six games. Cleveland has averaged 5.4 rpg in its last 17 road games and it is hitting .289 over its last 10 games. Millwood should get good support for the second straight game. Play Cleveland Indians

If there are two AL teams better suited to play ‘Under’, we are not sure who they are? After all, the White Sox stand at a jaw dropping 39-57 (o/u) for the season, including 15-30 (o/u) away from the Windy City and 24-36 (o/u) in night games. Note further that the Sox are a staggering 4-17 (o/u) as an underdog this year, as well as an eye-popping 5-14 (o/u) on the road when the total is set at 8 or 8.5!!!
As mentioned on many occasions, the reason for these drastic “Under” trends can be boiled down to one word: PITCHING! Consider that the White Sox boast a team ERA of 3.66 for the season, which happens to be the best mark in the American League and third best in the majors. Not only that, but Chicago’s pen is 5th best in the majors with a 3.24 ERA.
Meanwhile, Baltimore comes in at 40-54 (o/u) on the season, including an incredible 15-32 (o/u) at Camden Yards and 24-39 (o/u) vs. right-handed starting pitchers. Moreover, the O’s are 14-31 (o/u) when priced as chalk of -150 or less, including an implausible 4-21 (o/u) at home in this same range!!! If all that were not enough, not that BAL is now 32-48 (o/u) when the total is set between 8.5 and 10 this year, including 12-28 (o/u) at Camden in this same role.
Specific to today, the pitching match up is extremely strong. Hernandez and Bedard come in with a combined 6.89 ERA on the season, as well as a 6.10 combined ERA in the home/away split. We should lastly mention that Hernandez and Bedard carry a combined 8-16 (o/u) mark in their collective starts this year. All aspects considered, this game should stay well below the posted number. Play the under 8.5
