3 Units on San Antonio Spurs -8½ -110
The Spurs have won nine consecutive games to match their longest winning streak of the season. They have not won 10 in a row since a 13-game run from March 1-25, 2002. San Antonio is 38-7 since January 1 and is tied with the Dallas Mavericks for the best record in the league, which holds home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. The Spurs completed a three-game road trip with an 89-83 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday. Tim Duncan collected 25 points and 21 rebounds and Tony Parker scored 19 points as San Antonio played without starting center David Robinson, who sat out with a sore right knee. The Spurs have won five consecutive home games and are 31-7 in their first season at the SBC Center. Portland opened a three-game road trip with an 81-66 victory over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday. Damon Stoudamire scored 21 points and Bonzi Wells added 17 for the Blazers, who have won four of their last six games.

    3 Units on Utah Jazz -5 -110
The Rockets are just 1 1 /2 games behind the Phoenix Suns for the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference with four games remaining. They are just 1 1/2 games ahead of the 10th-place Seattle SuperSonics. Houston has dropped five of its last eight games, including Tuesday's 81-66 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. James Posey scored 15 points and Steve Francis managed only 12 points on 5-of-20 shooting for the Rockets, who tied a franchise low by shooting just 29.5 percent. Maurice Taylor started in place of Eddie Griffin, who was charged with marijuana possession on Monday. Griffin scored seven points in 22 minutes off the bench. Utah has lost three straight games after winning nine of its previous 10. Karl Malone had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Carlos Arroyo scored 16 points off the bench for Utah in Tuesday's 128-108 loss to the Golden State Warriors. The Jazz are 3 1/2 games ahead of Phoenix and two games behind the sixth-place los Angeles Lakers. The Jazz have won five of their last six home games and are 27-11 at the Delta Center this season.

    4 Units on Kansas City Royals -1½ +105 (Affeldt - L, Bonderman - R)
After having the opener of their three-game series with the unbeaten Kansas City Royals postponed, the offensively challenged Tigers take another shot at their first win of the year. Tuesday's series opener was pushed back due to the six inches of snow and freezing rain that fell on Comerica Park. Perhaps the break will help boost an offense that has been almost nonexistent through six games. Detroit has just six runs and 24 hits on the young season. ``The one thing in baseball is that you can never say you have seen it all,'' first-year Tigers manager Alan Trammell said. ``This is just an incredible, flat-out total team slump. It is testing us right out of the box, and I can see guys are pressing and trying to do too much. ``That will go away as soon as we win a game and win a series. That's the goal right now.'' Trammell wasn't in Detroit for last season's 0-11 start, but many of his players were. The Tigers are only the third team in major league history with consecutive 0-6 starts, and the first since the 1962-63 Mets began 0-9 and 0-8, respectively. ``It seems like every season, we get off to a horrible start,'' infielder Shane Halter said. ``Not just last year, but every year since I've been here. The start of the season is a big key, and we keep putting ourselves in a hole.'' Kansas City, which is off to a franchise-best 5-0 start, had its series finale with Cleveland rained out Sunday and had a scheduled day off Monday.
