The Mets under Manager Willie Randolph enter this one at an Even Stephen 46-46 on the season, and trail the Nationals by 6.5 games in the National League East. They are 27-20 at Home, and 4-2 versus the National League West. Kris Benson takes the mound for the Mets tonight. The right-hander is 6-3 with a 3.57 ERA on the season. The Mets are 7-3 in his last 10 starts, and he has pitched at least six innings in all of them, no small feat.
The Padres lead the National League West under Manager Bruce Bochy with a 50-43 record. They get two key infielders back from injury tonight -- 1B Nevin and 2B Loretta. Brian Lawrence gets the nod for the Padres. The right-hander is 5-9 with a 4.27 ERA on the season. He has lost three games in a row, and the Padres have lost seven out of the last nine games he has started. The Padres look to turn things around with Lawrence on the mound this evening as they work returning players back into the line-up.
