The Miami Heat try for their ninth straight win tonight hen they conclude a three-game homestand versus the Boston Celtics at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Miami's latest win came on Sunday, as Shaquille O'Neal poured in a team-high 27 points, Eddie Jones added 25 and the Heat rolled to a 117-107 triumph over Orlando.
Dwyane Wade added 22 points, including 10-of-11 from the line for Miami, is in the midst of its longest winning streak since reeling off 10 straight wins in March 1998. Udonis Haslem, Keyon Dooling and Christian Laettner each posted 10 points in the win.
The win also left the Heat three wins shy of the franchise record for consecutive victories, which occurred from January 27th to February 20th, 1997.
Miami, which will kick off a two-game road trip in Sacramento on Thursday, improved to 10-3 at home this season and has won four straight and five of its last six in South Beach.
Boston, meanwhile, also comes in on a winning note after it registered a 114-107 overtime victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers at Gund Arena on Saturday night.
Gary Payton scored six points in the span of a minute during overtime to lift the Celtics to the victory. Payton finished with 21 points, including a go-ahead three-pointer in the extra session.
Paul Pierce poured in a game-high 34 points with seven rebounds and six assists for the Celtics, who overcame a 16-point, third-quarter deficit on the way to their fourth win in five games.
Boston, which will be wrapping up a two-game road trip this evening, has won three straight on the road, but is just 5-7 away from home this season.
Miami defeated the Celtics earlier in the season and has won three straight from Boston. The Heat, though, have dropped five of eight and seven of their last 13 at home in this series.
