    Kansas City +1 over TENNESSEE

A couple of 4-8 teams meet on Monday Night, as the Chiefs take on the Titans in Nashville. Tennessee comes limping in off 3 road games, including last week’s 51-24 defeat at Indianapolis. Kansas City snapped a four-game losing streak with a 34-27 win in Oakland last Sunday.

The Chiefs will again be without RB Priest Holmes, as he is done for the season and has been placed on injured reserve. Without Holmes, the team has turned to Derrick Blaylock and former first-round pick Larry Johnson to carry the load in the running game. Johnson received most of the work in last Sunday's win over Oakland, carrying 20 times for a career-high 118 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 56 yards and added a score out of the backfield. Johnson is looking for another strong showing here on Monday Night and he should be successful. The Chiefs rank fourth in NFL rushing offense, and will face an injury-depleted Tennessee defense. The Titans lost yet another linebacker last Sunday, as Rocky Calmus is now out for the year after suffering a significant hamstring injury against Indianapolis. Kansas City QB Trent Green came up with a big game against the Raiders last week and runs the NFL’s fifth-ranked passing offense. Tennessee will also be without CB Samari Rolle, who was lost for the season last week due to a knee injury.

Tennessee running back Chris Brown returned to the lineup after a two-week absence last Sunday, rushing for 104 yards on 19 carries in the loss to the Colts. But Brown's chronic case of turf toe has rendered his status as questionable for Monday, meaning veteran Antowain Smith could get the call. Even if Brown does get the start, it’s unlikely he will be around at the end. The Titans were without quarterback Steve McNair for the fourth time in 9 games last Sunday, as McNair's bruised sternum forced Billy Volek into the lineup against Indianapolis. Volek played well at times, but was picked off twice and sacked seven times as the game spiraled out of control. McNair is also questionable for this game, so Tennessee’s offensive potential is quite limited, not knowing who will be available, when, or how long.

Tennessee looked great the last time it played on Monday night, at Green Bay in Week 5, but this is a much different Titans team. This edition of Jeff Fisher's club has been ravaged by injuries on the defensive side of the ball, not to mention at the quarterback and running back positions. Kansas City has been decimated by injuries as well, but the Chiefs still have enough pieces on the offensive side of the ball, including a massive offensive line, to score points on just about anyone. They also have an “ace up their sleeve” with their defensive coordinator. Gunther Cunningham spent the past three seasons as an assistant with the Titans and knows his former players quite well. KC also had an earlier appearance on Monday Night that didn’t go so well a few weeks ago when they hosted New England. The Chiefs are looking for a better primetime showing here and qualify for a PRO INFO SPORTS POWER SYSTEM exclusive to Monday Night games. It states: Play ON a Monday team not off a division SU loss as an underdog/pick 'em/favorite of 3 points or less in its last game and off a Monday home SU loss in either of its 2 games before that. These teams are 10-0 ATS since 1990, including Dallas getting a win and cover last week with their wild 43-39 SU & ATS win at Seattle. It’s also a good idea to avoid investing on Monday night teams off 2 or more road games. One POWER SYSTEM explains: Play AGAINST a Monday team off a road game last week (not an underdog ATS win) and a road game the week before that (no byes) vs. an opponent not off a home SU win & ATS loss. Since 1996 these teams are 0-14 ATS and Tennessee becomes the latest qualifying team for this game. This certainly won’t be the most meaningful Monday Night game of the season, as neither team has playoff aspirations. The Chiefs appear to have a little more life left than do the Titans at this point, as McNair and company simply can’t wait for the season to be over, so we like Kansas City to get the SU & ATS win.
