Some "EZ" Analysis
GS @ Den 2-24-03
-It's the GS "worst" NBA defense vs. the
Nuggets' "worst" NBA offense tonight in
Den. That makes for an interesting call
on the total currently at 192. Early money
seems to come down on the side of the
over......having driven the opening line
from 189' to 192.
-Yes.....GS played last night with
their usual "out shoot and score 'em"
game plan against Atl. The game was well
in hand after the 1H and Musselman even
got to emptied his entire bench including
Welsch for some floor time last night.
-I don't believe fatigue to be a factor in
this back-to-back for GS tonight because
the way the Atl game played out for the
Warriors.
-The last meeting between these two teams
in Den was on Nov. 29th and ended in a 92-82
GS win. The previous tilt on Dec. 3rd was a
110-89 GS win in Oakland.
-As stated above....you have:
*GS worst defense allowing 100.7 ppg
vs.
*Den worst offense scoring only 81.8 ppg
-One thing not factored into that 81.8 ppg
for Den is the addition of Shammond Williams
from the Celts and Marcus Camby's return for
19 minutes in the Jazz game on Saturday.
-Shammond got 13 in his first game as a Nugget
and Camby contributed 8 for Bzdelik's team.
-These are two "new" players for Bzdelik to
experiment with who can help his league's
worst offensive team.......and tonight is as
good a time as any to break out some offense
as the Warriors will look to do what they
do best......simply out score their opponents.
-At least during the beginning of those normally
long Nugget scoring droughts.....Bzdelik has
some new options with Shammond and Marcus!
-If Howard can get some offensive help from these
new faces.....the Nuggets might be able to put
a few more points on the board....night in and
night out.
-As for Musselman's Warriors.....they just will
not play defense. They are young and like to
run the floor......as a commentator in a recent
game made the hockey analogy........"DUMP AND
CHASE". That pretty well sums up the Warriors
style of play.....which affects their opponents
style of game.
-The Warriors will score points.....can the Nuggets
keep pace??? Tonight....I feel they can and with
a rising line the "sharps" seem to feel the same
way to.
-Looking at the combined numbers:
*Seasonal ppg scored.........182'
*Home/Away ppg scored........180'
*Last 5 games ppg scored.....189'
*Seasonal ppg allowed........192'
*Home/Away ppg allowed.......190'
*Last 5 games ppg allowed....206'
-The thing that "caught my eye" and pushed me
toward the over in this tilt was the Nugget
scoring at home against "bad" defensive teams.
During Feb. the Nuggets have scored:
*2-19 Min they got 77
*2-12 LAL they got 102
* 2-6 SAN they got 74
* 2-4 Chi they got 102
* 1-1 Mem they got 93
(these numbers were without the services of
Camby and Williams)
-Now...I just think Bzdelik has more offensive
options coming off his bench with the addition
of Williams and return of Camby.
-Plus.....against "bad" defensive teams and
playing at home.....the Nuggets have been able
to put up some points of recent.
-With 8 straight losses.....the Nuggets need to
figure out at some point.....you can play the
best defense in the league and make the game
as ugly as you wish......BUT you have to score
some a few points to WIN!!!
-The 2 wins they have had in their last 10 they
put up 102 and 93 against Chi and Mem respectively.
-And those two "high scoring" Nugget affairs were
at home against 2 teams who still play better
defense than the Warriors!!!
-Maybe history can repeat itself for this Nugget
team tonight and they can find the bottom of the
bucket a few times????
