The Portland Trail Blazers play their home-opener tonight, as they welcome the Los Angeles Clippers to The Rose Garden.
In its season-opener, Portland picked up a 78-75 win over the Golden State Warriors at The Arena in Oakland on Wednesday night. Nick Van Exel came off the bench to post a game-high 20 points for the Blazers. Shareef Abdur-Rahim added 18 points for the Trail Blazers, who are looking to get back into the playoffs after failing to do so for the first time in 22 years last season.
Zach Randolph, who signed an $84 million, six-year contract extension Monday, tallied 13 points and 10 boards in Wednesday's victory for Portland.
Portland was 25-16 as the host last season.
LA has struggled as the visitor against the Blazers, as it has lost 10 straight and 23 of its last 24 at Portland. The last time the Clippers won at Portland was on April 11, 1999.
The Clippers opened their season on a high note Wednesday evening, posting an impressive 114-84 victory over Seattle at the Staples Center. Bobby Simmons poured in a career-high 30 points and Elton Brand had 21, as the Clippers registered the win. Simmons made 13 of his 15 attempts from the field while Brand shot 10-for-15 to go with seven rebounds in a hot-shooting night for the Clippers.
Wednesday's win was the largest margin of victory on opening night for the Clippers since 1976 when the franchise was known as the Buffalo Braves. The club also broke a seven-game skid in season openers.
All five LA starters finished in double figures, as Corey Maggette ended the night with 18 points and six assists, while Marco Jaric posted 10 points. LA's first-round pick Shaun Livingston made all three of his shots for six points with five rebounds in his NBA debut.
LA, which is playing the first of a short two-game road trip, was a dismal 10-31 on the road last season.
In 2003-04, the teams split four meetings as each squad won twice on its home court.
Overall, the home team has won six straight and 14 of last 16 contests. The Clippers have won three of the last five contests in this series.
