Some "EZ" Analysis
Den @ Chi 2-15-03
-Cartwight's Bull come into tonight's game as
at -5' and playing horribly with 8 straight
losses.
-The Nuggets are in a slump of their own with
3 straight losses and their last win back on
Feb. 4th was against these very same Bulls in
Denver....in OT 102-100 (a total of 20 were
scored in OT).
-At the end of regulation in Denver.....these
two teams played to a 91-91 tie. That's 182
and just 1' pts. above tonight's line of 180'!
-The Bulls have consistently been inconsistent
scoring 100+ in 5 of there last 10 games...BUT
scoring under 80 in 4 during that same 10 game
span!! Seems like it's either "feast or famine"
when it comes to the Bulls scoring from one game
to the next.
MAKES HANDICAPP'N JUST A TAD BIT CHALLENGING!
-Last night against the Nets.....Chi look bad by
shooting in the 30's, 0-11 from behind the arc
and committing 23 turnovers!
-On the other hand.....Den has been putting up
decent point totals over their last 7 game.
They have hit 90+ in 6 of these 7....failing
to do so with only 74 against that tough Spurs'
defense.
-Some answers might be found in looking at that
last tilt in Denver between these two.
-In that OT game......3 players from each team
had well above average scoring games:
For the Nuggets
*Howard ave. 17.6 but got 30...+12.6
*Hilario ave. 9.7 but got 19...+8.3
*Whitney ave. 10.2 but got 18...+7.8
For the Bulls
*Curry ave. 6.4 but got 13...+6.6
*Marshall ave. 14.8 but got 21...+6.2
*Crawford ave. 8.2 but got 14...+5.8
-Granted.....the above numbers were achieved
with an additional 5 minutes of OT....but do
you think this will be duplicated tonight?
Especially.....Howard with almost twice his
seasonal scoring average????
-The combined numbers for both teams:
Seasonal ppg scored.......175'
Home/Away ppg scored......176'
Last 5 games ppg scored...187'
Seasonal ppg allowed......188
Home/Away ppg allowed.....188'
Last 5 games ppg allowed..202
-In Denver's last 7 games they have scored well
above their seasonal ave. of 82 in all but 2.
-In Chicago's last 8 games they have scored well
below their seasonal ave. of 93' in 4 of them.
-Here's my take.....one reason I see for the
Bulls "funk" comes from the fact that 7 of their
last 8 games have been on the road. And the road
has not been kind to this young Bulls team with
the worst road record in the NBA 2-27.
-Some home cook'n is just what Cartwright's
team needs tonight......I see this helping
their erratic scoring somewhat!
-The Nuggets are right behind the Bulls with their
horrid 3-22 road record. BUT...they have played
5 of their last 8 at home....which likely takes
away from their improved scoring of recent as
far as tonight's game is concerned.
-All this means is that I believe the Bull likely
shoot better tonight....but....will it be the
"Jackal or Hyde" Bulls tonight when it comes to
their offense?
-I'm hoping we don't see an OT tonight like we
did back on Feb. 4th......and the erratic offenses
of these two teams are just that.....erratic! To
me there's a "high probability" that one or both
of these teams fails to score enough to get this
total over the line of 180'!
