There were four lead changes in the "Buick Open" today between
our Free Pick, Mark Calcavechia, and his match-up opponent, Freddy Couples.
Calcavechia held a two stroke lead after the first 9 holes Saturday then had a double bogey and three bogeys to finally
come in at one - under - par: 71.
Couples had only one bogey all day but did not shoot himself in the foot as Calc did. With only birdie all day, Couples shot a
2 - under par, 70.
That moves us to Day 4 and a very close last day.
Tiger Woods, at this writing, shares the lead, in his first tournament since knee surgury.
Tee times tomorrow will prove interesting as Calc will tee off first and try and post a low score giving Couples something to shoot at.
And so here are the scores through today:
Calk: Thursday-----------71
Friday---------------68
Saturday-----------71
Total: --------------------210
Couples: Thursday -----69
Friday----------68
Saturdday---- 70
Total--------------------- 207
Couples and Calk tomorrow. A real shootout, if Calk doesn't double bogey any more par 3's! If he does, it will be over quick.
Should he play tomorrow as he did on round one today, he walk away with the "Matchup" because Couples made only 3 birds all day and one bogey. Go to PGA Tour .Com and click on Real Time Scoring, then both players names, to get an idea of how Calk had and lost the lead and how Couples remained "steady Freddy".
