Some "EZ" Analysis
Det @ Mil 2-14-03
-The lines for this contest currently reside at
Det -2 and 185...indicating the linesmen see a
close one here. In fact, this is only one of
two tilts tonight that doesn't have one team
or the other laying less at least 6 points!
-That's one of the reasons I tend to like an
over in this game.....a fight to the wire??
-First of all....you have Det coming in on a
back-to-back situation after beating the Magic
last night. I think that hurts their defense
more than their offense tonight. I also feel
George Karl will have his team play their
usual "up-tempo" and test the Piston's legs
late game.
-However, Carlisle has a great bench and should
still be able to hang regardless of the game's
pace.....and.....I see a Bucks team in the mode
to come out running after that score-fest with
the Mavs on Wednesday night.
-I realize these Central Division rivals played
to an 89-87 Mil win at Auburn Hills back on Jan.
11th. But.....tonight we're at Mil where the
home town fans will want their usual up and down
the court action they are accustomed to.
-With Rip and Chauncey scoring well of late...I
feel the Buck's guard combo of Allen and Cassell
will accommodate them by putting up enough points
to go over this line of 185.
-The combined team numbers play out like this:
Seasonal ppg scored........189'
Home/Away ppg scored.......191
Last 5 games ppg scored....203
Seasonal ppg allowed.......184
Home/Away ppg allowed......185'
Last 5 games ppg allowed...178
-However...keep in mind...figured into that last
5 game average is that HUGE "blow-out" win the
Pistons had at Boston by 52 points where the
Celts managed a whopping 66 for the entire game!
-Looking at the scoring by these two teams over
their last 5 games you have to like the chances
of tonight's over:
*Det averaged 100 ppg
*Mil averaged 103 ppg
-Again.....I'm less concerned about the last 5
ppg allowed:
*Det averaged 79' ppg <--includes 66 by Bost
*Mil averaged 98' ppg
-Also....Det has won their last 6 game by an
average of 19+ ppg. I see a tighter game
tonight that forces both teams to keep the
pressure on the opposition with bucket after
bucket.....making "empty trips" very undesirable!
-I just like the way the numbers shake out for
this tilt and believe Mil dictates the tempo
on their home court. Karl's team has better
chances for the win in a full-court affair
verses a "body-on-body" defensive half-court
war of attrition!
-Should the Buck's 3-balls find the range by Redd,
Cassell and Allen......the Pistons Rip and Billups
have exhibited enough offensive fire-power of recent
to carry us over this total of 185 and to a winning
ticket tonight!
