The Pittsburgh Pirates have been shooting themselves in the foot all season, it's a good part of the reason the team is just 32-43 to this point, they are even worse at home where they are just 14-22 thus far. The Pirates will be sending up Oliver Perez to start this one, he is now just 3-4 on the season with a 3.38era to this point. Perez has given up just 36 runs over 85 innings, he's walked 32 batters and has an impressive 102 strikeouts already. See, it's not that Perez is a lousy pitcher, he has good stuff, but with no support behind his arm it doesn't matter how great his pitching is. Evidence of missing run support can be found in the fact the Pirates have just one win over the last five starts with Perez, in fact they only scored a total of 2 runs or even less in 3 of his last 5 appearances. Perez will once again be hung out to dry, Pirates will get blitzed on this night.
The Milwaukee Brewers are now 40-34 this season, they are evening winning on the road where they are now 20-17 to this point. Milwaukee will send up Doug Davis to start this one, he is now 8-5 with a 3.34era as well. Davis has allowed just 44 runs over the course of 105 innings, he's walked 35 batters and struck out 72 already. Davis has only allowed 7 homeruns all season so we have no worries about getting hurt on the longball here. The Brewers give Davis great support, they are now undefeated over his last four straight starts, over that time Davis gave up just 8 runs over the course of 26 innings.
