San Francisco Giants (Hermanson) at Chicago Cubs (Maddux) 2:20 PM ET
Chicago Cubs (Maddux) –1.5 +122 (2 Units)
We’ll go back to the Cubs again who are clearly the better team and even though the pitching stats are similar, you only need to look at which way they are heading. Dustin Hermanson started the season with two very impressive starts but since then a trip to the DL and some shaky pitching has put him back down to earth. He has a 7.04 ERA and 1.63 WHIP his last 3 starts and not coincidentally, the Giants are 0-3 in those starts, losing each game by at least 3 runs and giving up an average of 6 rpg. He did pitch decent in his last outing but the Giants don’t have the offense to win games anymore. They have scored 4 runs or less in 11 of their last 13 games including 3 or less in 8 of those. They are averaging 3.1 in that span. Greg Maddux meanwhile is doing just the opposite of Hermanson. After starting the season with a 8.62 ERA in his first 3 starts, he has settled down post a 2.57 ERA in his last 5 outings, 4 of which the Cubs won. Maddux and the bullpen has given up only 12 total runs in those 5 games (2.4 rpg). With the way the Giants offense is producing, allowing between 2 and 3 runs yet again in very promising. The Giants are hitting only .228 on the road against right handed pitching while the Cubbies are hitting .272 at home and that is after getting only one run against Jason Schmidt on Tuesday.
