Today we like San Diego (Lawrence -$120) against Pittsburgh (Benson) in Game 1. Lawrence has been the backstop to the resurgence in San Diego. He is already 5-2 on the season in his eight starts and he has a 2-1 lifetime mark against the Pirates. Benson is 1-0 versus the Pads lifetime in four starts, but he does have a large 5.76 Era against them and their offense is much improved in 2004. Benson has lost three out of his last four starts and will have trouble with not a lot of backing from the Bucos offense today.
We also like Detroit (Maroth +$140) against Oakalnd (Redman). The Tigers have hit stride again with two straight wins, four out of their last five, and have evened their record out at 19-19. Mike Maroth has been a big part of their resurgence as well, posting a nice 4-1 mark, plus he dominated the A's lineup the last time he faced them. Maroth went eight strong innings in that game, giving up five hits and one run. We feel that this is a nice line to grab some extra money, so we are backing the Tigers.
