The Cubs return home riding a 4-game win streak and they catch a Giants team that is in complete disarray including internal feuding. Matt Clement is thankful to be heading home, as he is 4-0 with a 1.65 ERA at Wrigley Field. In two starts against the Giants last year, he was 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA. Clement ranks among the National League leaders in strikeouts (47), home earned run average (1.65), and opponents batting average against (.199). Clement and the bullpen are allowing only 2.7 rpg on the season while the offense is scoring 5.4 rpg in his 7 starts. Jason Schmidt is getting back into the groove but without an offense behind him, winning has been tough. The Giants are 3-3 in his starts this season with only one of those wins coming by more than one run. The offense is putting up only 2.7 rpg in his 6 starts. The Giants have given up more hits than anyone else in the league, and only the Rockies, who have Coors Field as an excuse, have allowed more runs. The bullpen is 27th in the Majors with a 4.83 ERA. The Cubs are hitting .318 against righties their last 10 games while San Francisco is hitting only .243 in the same stretch. They are batting only .235 overall on the road, which is 2nd to last in the National League. The Cubs .288 average is good for 2nd in the league, trailing only Colorado. At 15-23, the Giants are eight games under .500 for the first time since 1996 and they have hit into a league leading 48 double plays which is on pace to shatter the all time record of 174.
