DETROIT TIGERS (Maroth) +158 at MINNESOTA TWINS (Santana) –168:

These two teams are both putting runs on the board as each is averaging over 6 per game. The Tigers continue to surprise with their new look offensive game and when they hit, they win.
Today Detroit will send its best pitcher to the mound, Mike Maroth. Maroth has appeared to turn things around in 2004 after losing 21 games in 2003 and has quietly put together a string of 3 VERY solid starts, all ending in Tigers’ victories.
The Twins, on the other hand, will go with a struggling Johan Santana today. Santana is coming off a tremendous 2003 season, but has just not had the same success this year. His numbers are a bit deceiving however, because he is only allowing 1 hit per inning and 1 walk per game, but he’s allowed 11 runs in 3 starts. His problem has been the long ball, having tossed up 4 already.
With both offenses cooking, it seems that the best pitcher will win today and right now that’s Maroth. Santana is still being over-valued by the odds makers and Maroth is just not getting any respect. Take Detroit here as a solid value play on Thursday afternoon.
