4/17/04: Today’s Free Late Play from Prime Sports Picks
KANSAS CITY ROYALS (Appier) +141 at MINNESOTA TWINS (Lohse) -151:
MLB - 7:10PM (EST)
We won our early free play today with the Red Sox over the Yankess and we’re back with an evening MLB game with strong value.
The Royals and Twins slugged it out last night putting up 16 total runs. Both teams have been swinging hot bats, but their pitching has been the problem.
Tonight Kyle Lohse will take the mound for the Twins and he has struggled early this season allowing 16 hits and 6 walks in 10 innings going (0-2). Kevin Appier is making his first start of the season for Kansas City after recovering from off-season surgery. Appier has pitched well against Minnesota in the past and has great numbers pitching on turf (53-29) 2.93 ERA for his career.
The line here makes this game a play. The Twins do not deserve to be such a high favorite with Lohse pitching as they will again be without Hunter, Mientkiewicz, and Matt LeCroy. Although Appier is untested, he did finish his rehab assignment with a strong outing on Monday.
There is solid value on the Royals here as their lineup of Beltran, Gonzalez & Sweeney has the potential to put up big numbers again tonight. Take KC on the road.
Best of luck,
-Drew
