NBA - Toronto Raptors (-4.5) over Golden State Warriors
Toronto, looking to put the brakes on a four-game skid, welcome the Golden State Warriors to Air Canada Center on Wednesday night. The Raptors, 3.5 games behind a playoff berth, need to stop the red hot Warriors to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. 3 of the 4 defeats in their current losing streak took place on the road by an average of 6 points per game.
The Warriors, winners of seven of their last eight, have had a tough time on the road this season. They are only scoring 89 ppg when away from Oakland, and their road record is a pathetic 8-28 which ranks 2nd worst in the NBA behind the lowly Bulls and the Wizards (both are 7-30 road teams). 6 of their last 8 matchups were at home. Prior to their recent winning streak, they dropped 9 straight games (1-8 against the spread in those 9).
Meanwhile the Raptors, who are not a high scoring team whatsoever, rely on their solid defense which has been spectacular this season, especially at home. They have allowed 87.4 ppg in Toronto which ranks 6th in the league. A big part of this is rookie center Chris Bosh, who ranks first among the rookie class in blocks (1.36 per game) and rebounds (7.3 per game).
With solid contributions from Vince Carter, Donyell Marshall, and Bosh, Toronto should play a very energetic game here against Golden State. Carter, 9th in the NBA in scoring, needs to step up big for this team in this matchup.
These two teams have met only once this season, back on February 8th in Oakland. The Raptors defense was stellar in that game, holding the Warriors to just two points in the fourth quarter, the lowest scoring fourth quarter in NBA history. Toronto eventually pulled out a victory in OT, 84-83.
We like the home favorite Wednesday night. Take Toronto laying the points.
