Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers at Illinois-Chicago Flames 8:00 pm EST

    Illinois-Chicago –2.5 (2 Units)

Preseason Horizon League favorites Illinois-Chicago are finally starting to play how they were supposed to play. They have won 6 of their last 8 games with the 2 losses coming by a combined 4 points and both on the road. They have won their last 4 at home and 6 out of their last 7. They also have a chance to get back at the Panthers who beat them by 16 in the conference opener back in December. The Panthers are a perfect 10-0 in the league and this has all the makings of their first loss. After a hot streak of six 50% or better performances in seven games, the Panthers have cooled off some from the field in their last two outings. Wisconsin-Milwaukee shot 43.9% Saturday night against Wisconsin-Green Bay after making 42.9% of its shots at Wright State last Tuesday. The Flames and Panthers rank 1-2 in field goal shooting in the conference and Illinois-Chicago has an edge from behind the arc. The flames are allowing 43.7% on defense while the Panthers are allowing 45.1%. Illinois-Chicago has a much better assist/turnover ratio, thanks to being 2nd in the league in turnovers allowed (12.6) and thanks to having one of the best point guards in the country. Reigning NCAA Division I assist leader Martell Bailey is in the hunt to defend his title this season, averaging 8.6 assists per game through the Flames first 22 contests, currently ranking him second in the nation. While the Flames are favored in this game, a win won’t be considered an upset but the Panthers are ranked in both Mid-Major top ten polls so it will definitely be an upset in that regard.
