Georgetown Hoyas at Providence Friars 7:30 pm EST

The Friars are coming off a big upset over Connecticut on Saturday so the thought of a letdown is customary by many but we feel just the opposite. Providence has been playing very good and they should feed off that win to take care of a Georgetown team that has really fallen apart. Their recent skid can be attributed to that they simply aren’t as good as their record indicated early on. Their non conference schedule ranked 325th out of 326 teams so their preparation heading into a very balanced conference was lacking and now they are paying for it. The Hoyas have lost 4 of their last 5 games including a demoralizing loss at home against Duke on Saturday. They now must travel to face the hottest team in the Big East. This will be the 5th game for the Friars in 10 days and it really is a good time to play all of these games since they are so hot. Lately, it has been their defense that has really played a big part in their success. Providence is allowing 59.4 ppg over their last 5, 14 ppg less than their season average. They held Connecticut to a season low 56 points on Saturday, 27 points below their season average. Through the first 16 games, the Friars have posted their best start to a season since 1988-89. The Friars are 13th in the RPI compared to Georgetown who is ranked 105th. The schedules are miles apart also as Providence has played the 22nd toughest schedule while Georgetown ranks 276th. This is a lot of points to be giving in conference play but it isn’t a number that the Friars can’t handle. They have a +12.2 scoring margin at home and that includes a 1-point loss to Texas and a 5-point win over Alabama. The other 7 games have been won by 15.1 ppg.
