Purdue Boilermakers at Iowa Hawkeyes 8:00 pm EST

    Iowa –2.5 (2 Units)

Iowa brings a 6-0 home record into their Big 10 opener against Purdue who got their first taste of life on the road for the first time last week. They split their 2 road games over the weekend, losing at Colorado St. and defeated a depleted and outmanned Baylor team by just 11 points. The Hawkeyes have has a lot of time off, playing only 4 games in the past month. They haven’t played since last Tuesday in a win over Eastern Illinois but that followed up 2 road games in a span of 20 days so any major rust will be gone. The same starting 5 has gone each game and all 5 are the leading scorers on the team averaging at least 9.0 ppg, led by Pierre Pierce who is averaging 16.1 ppg. Pierce is also averaging 5.9 rebounds and he is second on the team with 33 assists. In six home games, Iowa has outscored its opponents by an average of 78.2-60.8, shooting 47.8% from the field while holding opponents to 35.8% shooting, and holding a 43.7-31 rebounding advantage. Iowa has outscored its opponents 179-152 from the free throw line, attempting 281 free throws compared to 218 for the opponents. Iowa has outscored six of its 10 opponents from the free throw line. Senior forward Glen Worley is a big asset off the bench since he returned from a fractured hand 6 games ago. In total, 9 Hawkeyes are averaging more than 13 minutes per game. Look for a much looser Iowa team on Wednesday. "We just need to quit thinking. We need to go out there and have fun," senior center Jared Reiner said. "We need to clear our heads." Iowa has opened Big Ten action with a win in each of the last seven seasons. Iowa has also been successful lately in its initial home Big Ten game of the season, winning 11 straight.
