Rice Owls at Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 8:00 pm EST

    Rice E (2 Units)

Rice will look to rebound from their home loss to Connecticut on Friday to try to win their WAC opener. Two of the Owls three losses have been to teams ranked in the top 5 in the country. Due to recent games against D-III Dallas College and Navy, their strength of schedule isn’t as high as it should be. Rice has been solid away from home, going 5-1 with three of those wins coming at the Top of the World Classic in November that they ended up being champions of. Louisiana Tech has played 5 home games with 2 of those against non-D-I teams. Jackson St. and Arkansas-Pine Bluff are ranked 224th and 315th in our rankings. They played Tulsa in their last game on Saturday, their toughest opponent to date. Tulsa led 30-25 at halftime, but struggled offensively in the second half, particularly during the final six and a half minutes when they managed only one field goal. It was more of a Tulsa loss than a Louisiana Tech win. The Owls have the experience it takes to win games on the road such as this. Forward Michael Harris, leads Rice in scoring at 17.6 ppg and in rebounding (9.1). He is third in the WAC in rebounding, second in field goal pct. (.577), and in scoring. Junior Jason McKrieth is ninth in the league in scoring at 14.8 ppg and fifth in the WAC in free throw percentage (.792, 38-48 ) and fifth in field goal pct. at 52.7%. Rice is first in the WAC with 93 steals. They are also third in the WAC in scoring defense by allowing 63.4 ppg. Rice has only allowed a team to more than 60 points four times this season. They have a knack for getting to the free throw line as Rice has made 152 free throws (152-225), while its opponents’ have attempted 154 (93-154).
