New Orleans Saints at Jacksonville Jaguars 1:00 pm EST

    Under 42 Jacksonville/New Orleans (2 Units)

New Orleans will have trouble getting a consistent ground game going against the second-ranked Jacksonville run defense, but it's their own run defense that could be their downfall. The Saints are ranked 26th in the league against the run, but they're much worse on the road. In their seven games away from the Superdome, they've yielded an average of 141.3 yards per game at a 4.8 per carry clip. And that's music to Jaguars running back Fred Taylor's ears. Taylor is on pace to gain 1,437 yards, and he has gotten stronger as the year has progressed. He's topped the century mark in three of his last four games. But it's his recent work at home that has really impressed. In his last three home games Taylor has averaged 144.3 yards at 5.3 yards per carry. The Saints can expect to get a heavy dose of Taylor this weekend. Taylor got only 16 carries against the Patriots last weekend, and coach Jack Del Rio admitted that he abandoned the run too soon. That shouldn't be the case this week. And when he carries the ball a lot the Jags usually win. When he totes the rock at least 24 times, the team is 4-1. The Jags have lost every other game in which Taylor has carried the ball less than that. The Saints are averaging 22.0 ppg this season but only 17.2 ppg on grass surfaces. Both defenses have been playing great as of late as both teams are allowing a combined 26 ppg over their last 3 games. Jacksonville has given up more than 13 points only once in their last 5 games and that happened to be last week at New England in the bad weather.
