The 2003-04 NCAA Football Post-Season kicks off Tuesday with the New Orleans Bowl at the Louisiana Superdome. The Memphis Tigers bring an 8-4 mark into the game, which is their best regular-season finish since 1973. Memphis had reeled off five straight wins during the year, before losing to USF, 21-16 in its season-finale. The highlight of Tigers' 2003 season, besides earning a bowl invite, was a 44-34 home victory over SEC power Ole Miss in their second game of the year. This game will be just the third all-time bowl appearance and the first since 1971, for Memphis. As for North Texas, it has become quite familiar with this game, as it will be the Mean Green's third straight trip to the New Orleans Bowl, where they have posted an even 1-1 record, including a 24-19 upset victory over Cincinnati last season. The squad earned a spot in the bowl game by winning the Sun Belt Conference title for the third straight season. The team also completed its second-straight perfect Sun Belt record and has won a nation-leading 18 straight conference games, dating back two seasons ago.
