La-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns at Dayton Flyers 7:30 pm EST
La-Lafayette +10 (2 units)
This game is currently off the board - the line is based on the overnight line. Five Cajuns, two transfers and three returning players, needed to solidify academics in final exams that ended on Saturday before they can hit the floor against the Flyers. The deadline for the scores to be posted is Tuesday at 10:00 am but because of travel issues, the team needed to know ahead of time and word out of Lafayette is that most players will be ready to go on Tuesday. Sun Belt preseason Player of the Year Michael Southall, Florida transfer Orien Green and forward Cedric Williams lead the way for a team that is picked to finish 1st in the Sun Belt. Southall is the big question mark for tonight but the added depth besides him gives the Cajuns more than they have had all season to this point. There will be some rustiness but this is a veteran group of players and their up tempo style will get them into the flow of things. After listening to the Brian Gregory radio show on Monday, Gregory is very concerned about this team. He confirmed on the radio that his sources told him that Lafayette would be close to full strength tonight. Obviously, all coaches always talk up their competition stating how tough of a game it’s going to be, but he made some great points. The Cajuns are the biggest team they will have faced so far this year with Wagner being the biggest prior to Tuesday. Wagner took them down to the final seconds before losing 67-65. The size advantage concerns Gregory because a good rebounding team that plays up tempo can lead to easy baskets. Dayton enters this game 6-0 and they are a big public team with their 3 games at the Maui Invitational all nationally televised. Nothing against this group as they are a very solid ball club, but the Cajuns now have the weapons to stay with the Flyers and pull off this upset.
