Saturday’s early 3-0 NCAA Football Money Plays -
7 STAR SELECTION (5% of Bankroll)
VIRGINIA +1 over Virginia Tech
…With the Hokies reeling a bit and out of the BCS picture, the Cavaliers should be able to jump on them early. Schaub should have another solid outing, to make amends for his awful performance a year ago in the Cavs' loss at VaTech. Schaub and the team has bee waiting for the re-match for a year, and now the game has finally arrived. Five days before his team's game against Georgia Tech, coach Al Groh saw the light. His team practiced so well, Groh deemed it the best one of the year. It carried into a solid performance in a 29-17 win against Georgia Tech. At the end of last Saturday's game, Virginia players raced into the student section, carrying a large orange flag with the school's logo. It was a symbol that Groh wanted his players to use as motivation during mid-season, back when this team seemed to be battling to attain a winning record. Now, with suddenly vulnerable Virginia Tech coming to town on Saturday, the Cavs have a good shot at a winning season and a much-improved bowl trip.
The only thing separating the Hokies from a 3-game losing streak right now is a 1-point OT win at Temple. They are experiencing the same type of season as last, when they start out glowing-red hot and flame out toward the end. As they fade here, they will be overmatched by a Cavalier crew that is just now hitting stride. Virginia Tech is now a horrendous 1-11 ATS vs. opponents playing with revenge coming off a SU double-digit victory, after going 0-3 ATS in that role this season. Virginia is one tough customer at home, where they are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games. Both teams are headed to bowls, but the Cavs come into this game feeling much better about themselves than do the Hokies, and, thus, more confident. They'll get their revenge here, as they send Tech back home with a SU loss.
PROJECTED FINAL SCORE: VIRGINIA 34 VIRGINIA TECH 27
ACTUAL FINAL SCORE: VIRGINIA 35 VIRGINIA 21
4 STAR SELECTION (4.25% of Bankroll)
MISSOURI -26 over Iowa State
…Just as Kansas got healthy when playing Iowa State last week, look for the Tigers to get well here. Mizzou has stumbled a few times lately, but they should gain confidence going into its bowl game with a convincing victory over Iowa State. The Cyclones have been the punching bag of the conference this season and Missouri will certainly land a few blows here. The Cyclones are now 1-13 ATS as a road dog of 8+ points, and are 0-13 ATS in their last 13 SU losses. The Tigers are a fantastic 18-1 ATS in their last 19 SU losses, and should roll to an easy SU/ATS win on "Senior Day".
PROJECTED FINAL SCORE: MISSOURI 45 IOWA STATE 9
ACTUAL FINAL SCORE: MISSOURI 45 IOWA STATE 7!
3 STAR SELECTION (4% of Bankroll)
TENNESSEE -11 over Kentucky
…Kentucky came into this season with one goal in mind, and that was to go to a bowl game. Those dreams went up in smoke with the heart-breaking 7-OT home loss to Arkansas, and this team has simply never recovered. They even let Vanderbilt beat up on them following the loss to the Razorbacks. Meanwhile, Tennessee is peaking right now and focused on getting to the SEC championship game. Kentucky would like to think that this is a big rivalry, but the haven't won a game in this series since the mid-80's, and there is no reason to expect that losing streak to be broken Saturday. In fact, Tennessee owns a commanding 66-23-9 lead in the all-time series including a 24-0 whitewashing of the Wildcats a year ago. The Vols have won the last 18 meetings, and they have scored more than 50 points in five of the last seven matchups. Last year they ended the regular season with shutouts over Vandy and Kentucky and are half way there in duplicating that effort this season. With so much on the line here, they aren't about to let up on anybody, which is bad news for the Wildcats, who are simply playing out the string.
Of all the players Kentucky can't afford to have out or limited because of injuries, OT Antonio Hall, WR-KR Derek Abney, and DE Vincent Burns are three of the worst possibilities. Hall is the best and most experienced player on the offensive line, and he's doubtful. Abney is Kentucky's best all-around playmaker, and he's questionable. Burns is the key player in Kentucky's 3-4, and he, too is questionable. Look for Abney and Burns to play, but possibly at less than 100 percent, while Hall will probably sit out and be nearly impossible to replace. As a conference road favorite of 13 points or less, Tennessee is a robust 23-5 ATS, and now 6-1 ATS in their last 7 meetings with UK. The Wildcats effort in this game will reflect how their season has gone - some flashes of good play, but too much to overcome and fading in the end. They may keep it close for a quarter or even a half, but the determined Volunteers are on a mission and won't be slowed down much here.
PROJECTED FINAL SCORE: TENNESSEE 35 KENTUCKY 13
ACTUAL FINAL SCORE: TENNESSEE 20 KENTUCKY 13!
