USF is sensational at home and laying less than a FG to a struggling Bearcat squad. South Florida has made some highly correctable errors. Four times USF reached the Southern Miss 11-yard line or better last week. Assuming seven points for a touchdown, USF got just six , less than 25 percent of the possible bounty in the 27-6 defeat. Penalties were a huge reason.
“That’s 28 points right there,” USF coach Jim Leavitt said. “We win the ball game.” Receiver/quarterback Brian Fisher was not used last week in the red zone as their option quarterback. Fisher has three rushing touchdowns at quarterback in the red zone. USF has shown that they can correct mistakes. Throwing seven interceptions in his first four games, USF QB Ronnie Banks has not been intercepted in his past two games (33 of 73 for 328 yards
The Bearcats lost three straight then it got worse. Last week’s 33-29 win at Army was as unimpressive as a victory could be. They are getting a safety from a team that is 23-1 their last 24 SU at home. Their senior WR Chris Iskra finally may see his first significant playing time of the year against the Bearcats. He is listed as probable.
