Tonight we like Northern Illinois -6 1/2 against Iowa St. The Huskies are for real, as they have now beaten Maryland and Alabama to start the season (along with an easy time with Tennessee Tech). The Huskies defense, with 8 returning starters, has been the story, allowing 13 and 16 to two big time programs in the Terps and Tide, and will handle the Cyclones as well today. N Ill ended 2002 with an 8-4 record, they were 9-2 ATS and 5-1 ATS as a favorite. The Huskies are 9-3 ATS in September games since 1998 and they are 15-6 ATS as a favorite in their last 21 such games. Iowa St opened with two wins over easy Northern Iowa and Ohio, but saw real competition with a 40-21 loss to the Hawkeyes two weeks ago. A few nice trends against the Clones, they are 12-23 ATS in road games on turf, and they are 2-10 ATS as a road dog of more than 6 points. Both of these fit, Huskies roll.
Also taking Minnesota (Radke -165) against Detroit (Knotts). Minny is 9-1 last 10 games, Det 3-7. Radke 3-0 with 1.57 Era last three, 2-0 versus Detroit. Knotts 0-3 with 15.30 Era last three. Minny looks to ride the wave into post season play.
