The Cowboys try to regroup from their first defeat of the season when they host NFL leading rusher Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings Sunday. Dallas fell 48-27 to New England last week committing a season-high 12 penalties and failed to stop the Patriots on their first five drives surrendering the most points since giving up 49 to Philadelphia on Nov. 15, 2004. The Cowboys who have their bye week after hosting Minnesota Sunday have allowed an NFC worst 11 passing touchdowns this year, however they have been stingy against the run yielding just under 80 yards per game and two touchdowns on the year. Rookie running back Adrian Peterson turned in one of the best performances in the NFL this season last Sunday in a 34-31 win at Chicago running for a team-record 224 yards on 20 attempts and touchdowns of 67, 73 and 35 yards. Peterson is still officially the backup to Chester Taylor and leads the NFL in rushing yards with 607 rushing yards and 6.3 per carry. Peterson also has 10 receptions for 175 yards this year and returned a kickoff 53 yards last week to set up Ryan Longwell's winning 55-yard field goal as time expired but the question is can struggling Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson can take advantage of Dallas inability to defend against the pass. Jackson returned against the Bears after missing two games with a groin injury and completed a season low 9 of 23 passes for 136 yards. The Vikings are the only team in the NFL yet to allow a rushing touchdown but they will have to shore up their pass defense against Tony Romo, Terrell Owens and Crayton because Minnesota has yielded an NFC high 1,442 yards through the air and 15 touchdowns passes to lead the conference. Minnesota has won five straight against Dallas including a playoff victory in 2000. The teams haven't met since the Vikings won 35-17 on Sept. 12, 2004. The hardest thing to do as a professional athlete is to come back after a huge lost and play another team. Minnesota will come out explosive and take advantage of Dallas's lack of concentrating on them because of there defeat to the New England Patriots which was the #1 topic of conversation amongst NFL fans, but Dallas is good for at least 35 points at home against this Minnesota secondary and the total is only 46.
