    Saturday's Top-Rated NFL Pre-Season winners

    San Diego E over HOUSTON

San Diego vs. HOUSTON OVER 32 1/2

Two squads still searching for their first preseason win take the field at Reliant Stadium on Saturday, when the Houston Texans host the San Diego Chargers. San Diego lost a 16-10 decision to the Arizona Cardinals at Sun Devil Stadium last week after losing their opener in Seattle. Houston is looking for answers after being embarrassed, 34-6, by in-state rival Dallas last week.

Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer doesn't expect to do anything dramatically different this week regarding his substitution pattern, but against the Texans he shouldn't have to. Houston's starters will also see limited time. The big edge for San Diego is their QB rotation with Drew Brees and Doug Flutie leading the way. Houston's David Carr is only expected to play 20-25 snaps before giving way to Tony Banks, Mike Quinn, and the rookie Dave Ragone, none of whom has been impressive this summer.

While the Chargers have several injuries, Houston is a M*A*S*H* unit disguised as a football team. Their running game is especially thin, as they'll be without new starter Jarrod Baxter for the entire season after he was diagnosed with a severely sprained left foot. RB Jonathan Wells is questionable, RB Domanick Davis is expected to miss this game, as is C Steve McKinney. DE Gary Walker is doubtful, while KR Darrick Vaughn, CB Aaron Glenn, FS Travares Tillman, OG Ryan Schau, TE Bennie Joppru, and FS Matt Stevens are all questionable.

The Dallas Cowboys showed an offensive explosion against the Texans and we think the Chargers are capable of doing likewise, which makes the side and OVER quite appealing. The numbers generally bear us out here as well. Teams off 2 SU losses in which they scored 10 points or less are 14-5-1 ATS, including a perfect 3-0 ATS since 1989! Week 3 "poor teams" (those that finished with fewer than 7 wins the previous year) are an ugly 4-14 ATS vs. "average/good teams" (those that finished with 7+ wins). With such a low totals number we like the OVER and we strongly favor San Diego to cover in a SU win.

ACTUAL FINAL SCORE: SAN DIEGO 19 HOUSTON 17

    Tennessee -1 1/2 over CINCINNATI

The Tennessee Titans face their second former AFC Central foe in three preseason games Saturday night, when they take on the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium. Tennessee began the preseason with a win over ex-Central rival Cleveland and followed it up with an impressive 37-24 victory over Buffalo last week. Cincinnati got into the preseason win column with a 23-10 victory over Detroit at home last week as rookie QB Carson Palmer led the Bengals to a pair of third quarter touchdowns in his home debut. Marvin Lewis picked up his first win as a head coach at any level.

When Titans QB Neil O'Donnell plays, it gives Tennessee one of the deepest QB rotations in the league. O'Donnell was held out last week but will be back behind center vs. the Bengals. Of course the starter is Steve McNair who has looked very impressive in the pre-season. We also know that coach Jeff Fisher expects the starters to play far more in the final two preseason games than they did in the first two. As he has routinely done in the preseason, Fisher will play the regulars through halftime and into the third quarter against the Bengals this week.

Expect to see more of rookie Carson Palmer for Cincinnati, following Jon Kitna. While the Titan starters will play into the second half, Lewis will have Bengal back-ups on the field before the break, giving Tennessee a decided advantage. Our numerical research also indicates that Tennessee has the edge here. The Titans are 4-1 ATS in Week 3 of the pre-season, while Cinci is a horrific 2-11 ATS off a pre-season spread win. THREE PRO INFO SPORTS NFL Power Systems for the pre-season are aligned in Tennessee's favor, as away teams with 2+ SU wins vs. an opponent with exactly one win are a super 22-5 ATS, Saturday home teams vs. foes off a home game are just 7-18 ATS including 1-3 this year, and Week 3 "poor teams" (finishing the previous season with fewer than 7 wins) are 4-14 ATS when hosting "average/good teams" (finishing with 7+ wins the previous year). With minimal points to give away, we have a strong selection here on Tennessee to win and cover this low number.

ACTUAL FINAL SCORE: TENNESSEE 23 CINCINNATI 15

    Jacksonville +6 over TAMPA BAY

New coach Jack Del Rio will attempt to keep his Jacksonville Jaguars unbeaten in the preseason Saturday night, when they battle the in-state rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium. Jacksonville tallied its second consecutive victory last weekend, downing Miami 27-23. Tampa Bay had its preseason bubble burst on Monday, as it fell 26-16 to the St. Louis Rams.

With the emergence of rookie Byron Leftwich, Jacksonville suddenly has a pretty decent QB rotation going with Mark Brunell and David Garrard in the #1 and #2 slots, respectively. Look for those 3 to each see significant time vs. Tampa. The Jaguar starters on both offense and defense could play much if not all of the first half, according to head coach Jack Del Rio. New offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave continues to get high marks from Del Rio for creative play-calling and overseeing what appears to be a smooth installation of the West Coast offense.

Tampa also has a strong QB rotation with Brad Johnson, Shaun King, and rookie Chris Simms; however, while Jacksonville starters will be in for the first half, Buc starters are expected to only play into the second quarter, which will leave plenty of time for the second-, third- and fourth-stringers. Gruden said his plans for the starters against the Jaguars are similar to the first three preseason games. Many teams use the next-to-last preseason game to play starters into the third quarter. Perhaps Gruden is simply trying to save his first-teamers, as the Bucs are paying a price for that Vince Lombardi Trophy they got after the Super Bowl. They have toiled through a brutal preseason schedule that began in Tokyo on Aug. 2. Next was a road game in Miami less than a week later. Now after the Monday Night loss in St. Louis, they return home on just 5 days rest to play a fresh Jaguar team that has been at home for weeks. The Bucs will have to face another fired up team, ready to knock off the world champs, even if it's just a pre-season game.

Again, a lot of numbers are backing us up with a play on the underdog Jaguars. Big underdogs (4 1/2 points or more) are a tremendous 31-12 ATS. New head coaches as dogs are 63-38 ATS, including 5-2 this season. Del Rio is already 2-0 this campaign as an underdog. Going against the defending Super Bowl champions in the pre-season has been a profitable 37-21 ATS, and we feel we've got a pretty good handle on this team, as we are 3-0 in Tampa games this pre-season. More of our PRO INFO SPORTS Pre-season Power Systems indicate to jump on Jacksonville here as well, so we look for an energized bunch of young Jaguars to give Tampa all they can handle, as the Jaguars cover the spread, if not win outright.

ACTUAL FINAL SCORE: TAMPA BAY 10 JACKSONVILLE 6
