Minnesota Timberwolves at Orlando Magic 6:00 PM ET
Orlando Magic -6.5 -105
Minnesota has not recovered from the debacle against Seattle where it blew a 25-point lead in the second half as it has dropped its last two games since including a 15-point home loss against Miami. The Timberwolves are out of the playoff picture and at this point they are just going through the motions. Minnesota is just 10-27 on the road this season and it has gone only 2-17 in its last 19 games away from home. Those 17 losses have been by an average of 10.8 ppg including its last 11 by 11.5 ppg.
Orlando picked up a big home win last time out over Indiana to remain tied for 7th place in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Magic have won five of their last eight games which doesn’t sound like anything special but after dropping 22 of their previous 29 games, they are playing much better at this point. They are a solid 22-14 at home including wins in three of their last four in Orlando. This is the 2nd game of a four-game homestand and with four of its final six games coming on the road, the winning needs to continue.
Since firing Dwane Casey as coach in late January when they were 20-20, the Timberwolves have gone 10-22. Their play has been so inconsistent that they haven’t won consecutive games since before the all-star break six weeks ago. Minnesota is 4-13 all time in Orlando and the majority of those losses were when Minnesota was an elite team in the league, something that is no longer the case. The Timberwolves lost the first meeting at home this season by 11 points and simply doesn’t have the ability to avenge that defeat on the road.
The key player in this game is Dwight Howard, who has been playing some great defense as he held Jermaine O’Neal in check on Friday. He will be guarding Kevin Garnett in this one and will need another solid effort. Howard had 21 points and 22 rebounds in the first meeting, and his seven offensive boards were one more than the entire Timberwolves squad grabbed. Another player to keep an eye on is Grant Hill who had one of his better games on the season against the Pacers. Look for Orlando to run away with this one late. Play Orlando Magic 1 Unit
