We lost a tough one with Cleveland on Wednesday as 3 errors, a baserunning blunder and a missed call at home plate did us in.

    Houston - Villone +120 (3 Units)

Kerry Wood has struggled with only 1 win since the middle of July and the Cubs are just 1-4 in his last 5 starts. In those starts, Wood has an ERA of 6.75. His recent troubles can be attributed to a back problem that was thought might keep him from his next scheduled start. Reports of Wood's back problems surfaced July 30 after a loss to San Francisco, but he shrugged them off at the time. "We knew a couple weeks ago he had a little discomfort," Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said. "But he's been throwing awfully well, and [Wood] is not going to tell you unless it's really bad ... it's been one of those things that comes and goes with him." Chicago has struggled all season against lefties going 14-18 –1395 and they are –1025 in the National League Central. Ron Villone has been throwing brilliantly since being called up in mid-June as his 3.20 ERA attests to. He has given up more than 3 earned runs just once but the Astros are only 4-7 in his 11 starts. The normally solid bullpen has coincidentally had their bad outings in a few of Villone’s starts as he has 5 no-decisions after leaving the game tied or with the lead. We’ll go against a non-100% Wood, who is still favored despite his publicized back problems, and go with the most consistent starter the Astros have on their roster.
