Well sports fans this should be a gem to watch on national television Saturday evening. Rutgers comes in with a chance to play for a portion of the Big East title, an opportunity that WVU gave away with last week's lose to South Florida. At the time of this writing it is listed as a pick em line! What was interesting is that WVU was at home, had an extra two days to prepare after the Thursday game against Pitt and seemed to be terribly out of sync and confused versus USF. Meanwhile the Scarlet Knights put a whopping on Syracuse, and Ray Rice rebounded from an off day against Cincinnati with 135+ yards, and unheralded Brain Leonard (heart of this team), added 105.
One team is up and the other is not just wondering where did the BiG East title go, but also pre-season national title implications. Even senior day shouldn't provide much lift, as the playmakers for WVU are almost all underclassmen. Two weeks ago QB White and RB Slaton both ran for over 200 yards versus Pitt. Only the third time in the history of college football this has occurred. Last week they combined for less than 100 yards rushing as USF employed the theory of stop the run and force the pass. Rutgers has the edge on defense with the #17 "D" to WVU's #47. The Mountaineers may put more points on the board per game, 40 to 27, but Rutgers can keep their offense off the field with ball control.
The Scarlet Knights are 1-6 ATS @ WVU, but that's before Schiano got it going. They have lost by one and two touchdowns each of the last two years. More importantly under Rodriquez WVU is 7-12 ATS as home favorites, and 9-12 ATS in home finales. Lastly the Mountaineers ore 2-10 ATS off a SU home favorite loss like last week. Take the Scarlet Knights who are playing for a title and cash Saturday evening!
