NFL Odds: NFC Foes Clash in Battle of Offense Versus Defense

The San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints head into a Week 10 matchup with identical records in the standings, but that doesn’t mean that the situations they find themselves in are all that similar. With a lighter load in their own division, the Saints are favored heading into the weekend and have 16/1 odds of winning the Super Bowl versus San Francisco’s 25/1.

With the ever-prolific Drew Brees under center, the Saints are a tough team to stifle. The 49ers are renowned for their defensive efficiency, but that alone wasn’t enough for oddsmakers to tilt the betting line in their favor. As both teams look to climb above .500, the Saints will do so as -5.5 favorites in the sportsbook, putting all the more pressure on San Francisco to climb out of their two-game slump.

New Orleans boasts a high octane offense, fifth in the NFL in points per game and second in yards per game. In contrast, the Niners are a middling offensive force but a stellar defensive one. San Francisco holds teams to the second fewest yards per game (though jarringly, they’re just 15th in points allowed per game).

Expect the regular rotisserie of New Orleans scoring options to be on display in Week 10; Brees has thrown for 15 touchdowns already this season and will be looking to add a few more.
