In an about-face from two years ago, the Massachusetts House voted Wednesday to expand gambling, arguing that building two casinos and adding slot machines at four racetracks could create jobs. It is not clear whether the Senate and Gov. Deval Patrick, a Democrat, will go along with what would be the biggest expansion of gambling since the state introduced the lottery in 1971; Senate leaders and the governor oppose slot machines. The House vote is a sharp reversal from its vote in 2008 under a different House speaker. Wednesday’s vote was the result of a tour-de-force by Speaker Robert A. DeLeo, who has two racetracks in his district.
