  • Colorado to hire special administrator

    Poll:

Will Barnett lose his job over these allegations?

Boulder, CO (Sports Network) - The University of Colorado plans to hire a special administrator to oversee the investigation of allegations surrounding the football program.

Former Colorado kicker Katie Hnida claimed Tuesday that she was raped by a teammate four years ago. Additionally, recent allegations regarding improper recruiting techniques involving alcohol and parties have led to the investigations.

Hnida, 22, left Colorado after the 1999 season and later enrolled at New Mexico. She said she never said anything when it happened because she was too frightened to tell police.

She is making the claim now because of the recent allegations brought against the university. Three women sued Colorado in federal court three weeks ago, saying that they were raped by players or recruits at an off-campus party in December 2001.

Hnida claims she was assaulted in the summer of 2000 at a teammate's home. She said the football player began to kiss her despite repeated efforts to get him off and after resisting, Hnida says the man continued and forced himself on her. She said she was unable to move the player, who outweighed her by over 100 pounds.

Hnida, who does not expect to file charges, is making the assertion now "to see changes made" at the school. Head football coach Gary Barnett said he has never heard of Hnida being sexually assaulted.

The woman, who became the first player to compete in a Division I-A football game when she attempted an extra point for New Mexico in the 2002 Las Vegas Bowl, did not try out for the Buffaloes in 2000. She claims that Barnett made it clear she would have to try out again and beat out the other kickers.
