Play On: Louisville, -29.5
Reason: 8th-ranked Louisville pounded Cincinnati last week in a 70-7 home win as -24 point favorites. Kolby Smith rushed for three touchdowns and Montrell Jones added three scores, including a 72-yard punt return, as the Cardinals annihilated the Bearcats. Smith ended with 71 rushing yards on only five carries while Jones had three catches for 57 yards with two TD's for the Cardinals, who have won five straight games since losing their only game of the season at Miami-Florida on October 14th. Eric Shelton added 158 rushing yards and a touchdown on only 10 carries while Michael Bush chipped in 106 on the ground for Louisville, which racked up 357 rushing yards. The Cardinals, who won the conference, will likely be heading to the Liberty Bowl, although a spot in one of the BCS bowls still remains an outside possibility. Stefan LeFors completed 8-of-11 passes for 79 yards with a score for Louisville, which also blocked two punts that resulted in touchdowns. Louisville had a 491-186 edge in offense and won the turnover battle, 4-1. Tulane is off a 35-31 upset win over TCU last week as +14½ point underdogs. Richard Irvin threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Chris Bush with 43 seconds left in the game to lift the Green Wave over the Horned Frogs. Irvin completed 22-of-37 passes for 282 yards and five TD's with one pick and Bush caught six passes for 136 yards with two touchdowns to help keep Tulane's bowl eligibility hopes alive. They will need a win this week to get a bowl bid, however, that seems very unlikely. Tulane was outgained 477-376, but won the TO battle, 2-1. This game was originally scheduled for September 18th, but was postponed due to Hurricane Ivan. Louisville is 4-1 SU and ATS versus Tulane and 13-6 ATS as a conference traveler. Tulane comes in 3-7 ATS the last ten meetings with the Cardinals, but the Green Wave is an impressive 10-3 ATS the week after a SU win and 6-1 ATS after two or more consecutive straight up wins. However, they have not fared well in their final home game of the season, going just 2-10 ATS. Louisville is rolling as they are 9-1 ATS this season, 8-1 ATS as a favorite, 6-1 ATS versus conference foes and 6-0 ATS as a favorite between -21½ to -31 points. Tulane has shown some drastic improvement, but their 86th-rated defense may be in trouble here. Looks as though another Louisville blowout is on tap. Lay the points.
