Hey Night Owls,
Looking for something that will be the talk of golfers around the water cooler today?
Yahoo, which just (speaking of new servers) bought into millions of new equipment and site design(www.Yahoosports.com) has a great article on "How Low WILL They Go?" posted. And with attribution to meet copywrite content, I give you something to consider: A chance to beat David Duval's PGA record score of 59!
By Jennifer Gardner, Golf Press Association
LA QUINTA, Calif. -- It's not often on the PGA Tour when a player can shoot a 61 and only tie for the best round of the day.
But at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, a pro-am event where the courses are set up a little easier to help the amateurs and are kept in perfect condition, low scores are the norm. And when Jay Haas shot a 11-under 61 on the PGA West Palmer Course, he wasn't alone.
"I felt like somebody was going to shoot -- I said 61 yesterday, I thought was going to be the number. I guess everybody just took a day to kind of get used to it or something," Haas said.
Second-year PGA Tour member Pat Perez joined Haas with the low round of the day, recorded on the Bermuda Dunes course.
"I don't look at it as 'Oh, I've got a great round and we are done,'" Perez said. "I need 17-under minimum the next few days to have a chance. You might see another one, a 60. The courses are in perfect shape -- no wind. I'm not surprised at all."
Since 1974, there have been six 61s recorded in the Hope. The lowest round at this tournament was David Duval's 59 in 1999.
Could this week be the time for another 59 -- or even lower?
"It could go either way," said Davis Love III, who shot 64 Thursday. "I think you're going to see that. You're going to see guys in the low 60s unless conditions keep them from it. And as a lot of players have been saying, firmer greens are really the answer, and if they are soft, we're going to shoot right at them."
